So i have read about other people having that amazing blue screen pop onto their computer and then the annoying clicking from the hard drive. I to have that issue and don't know what i should really do. Ive seen the costs and called a few places for pricing on recovery, im ok with buying a new drive or even computer, but there is a few files like family photos that i really want off the drive. Silly me has never backed anything up either. Anyone have any suggestions or places that can do great work without going over $1000???
Any help would be great, and i think the drive is a hitachi.

Hi Dennis, your description sounds very similar to what i have had in the past , see here described in this link below that your heads are stuck. What i managed to do was cool the drive for long enough so that i could use a program to make an image of the drive. You can then mount the image to a new drive or just get the files back. I didn't use the freezer method but instead a great big heat sink and a large fan to keep the drive as cool as possible.

If you'd rather let someone else get your data back then you can certainly get your data back from a company for a few hundred not $1000
Best of Luck

Drive with a stuck heads will not spin up, so there is no way it would click.
Freezing a drive and trying to recover data from it could result in more damage, which could jepardize any recovery. _________________ www.datarecoveryne.com |

I noticed this also in another post on the forum here.

Is that place just for general "oops, i deleted my stuff" recovery? or "dang, my drive crashed and is making the clicking noise of death recovery?"
Because the price seems pretty cheap if its either way. |
