I have a drive out of a user's system that was stored in a closed cabinate (lots of heat). It sometimes worked, I was able to get some data off via IDE->USB cable, but after trying to get a second batch of data off, the drive no longer spins up, and makes no sound at all.

There is no voltage going to the spindle motor... Is this typical of a dead PCB? When I connect it to my Linux box via USB, it does get ID'd as:

WDC WD12 Model: 00BB Rev: 17.0

When it worked, it was:

WDC WD12 Model: 00JB-00CRA1 Rev: 17.0

Any suggestions? Would a simple PCB swap fix it? If so, anyone happen to have one of these boards? |

				| It can be the PCB but further details would be required. Try looking for the pcb on ebay or google it. You may have to order over seas... |

				| If the spindle is on the verge of or has seized you MIGHT be able to "hand start" the motor. Open the drive and carefully give it a spin when booting. I definately recommned using in a PC not HDD case. Its worth a quick try before trying other methods... |
