SD15 firmware is afflicted by the 7200.11 BSY bug. If your drive spins up but is not detected, then you may be eligible for free data recovery from Seagate. Otherwise, if it reports 0 LBAs, then there is an easy DIY fix. In both cases the problem is internal to the drive, not the PCB.

If the drive doesn't spin up, then there may still be an easy DIY fix, depending on the fault.

If you really need to replace the board, then be aware that you will need to transfer the 8-pin serial flash memory chip, or its contents, from patient to donor. This chip stores unique, drive specific information.

The following suppliers include a firmware transfer service for between US$10 and $20.

Otherwise your local TV/AV repair shop should be able to do it for you.

Many Thanks for all your answers...

I will give them a try.. I appreciate your responses.

I sent an email to seagate, they just said they would replace the drive and I had to recover the data myself. How can I check further to see if I am eligible for the fee data recovery?

There is a thread about this issue at Seagate's forums. If Seagate Tech Support won't help, try contacting one of the moderators.

BTW, the BSY bug does not prevent the drive from spinning up. If your drive is completely dead, then you have a different problem.
