My hard drive crashed last week. I have a WD2500JB 250Gb.
I bought a new, but the PCB is newer.
Now it spinns up, but makes a CLUNCK-CLUNCK noise afte 5 sec.
Whats the problem?
If it is the motor or head, can I replace it with a new one? |

no sorry its nothing like the motor gone on the drive
more likely firmware problems
as the knocking the head is bang back and forwards as it can not find the start of the hard drive
match up the logic board and allso the firmware |

hi! i have the same problem with my WD1600JB-00EVA0. The L6282 Controller burned up
The damaged one was built on 09 DEC 2003.
I bought a new one on Ebay.
The new one was built on 24 DEC 2003.
i read on http://wd1200jb.freewebspace.com/
is it possible to do this with these two pdc`s, too?
Here is the sound i get when i connect the new pdc to the old hdd.

I found an exact match as far as PCB goes and the firmware chip version is also the same. The only difference I noticed is that the foam was a different color.
Initially, the bios would recognize it and windows detects it but I cant access the drive at all and my system is very slow. I tried chkdsk and it fails. I eventually gave up and shutdown.
When I tried booting up a few minutes later, I heard the noise. The Bios wouldnt recognize it. I let the drive cool down for an hour or so and try it again. Again, the bios picks it up but I still can't get to the files?
Should I try another PCB board? Western Digital has a tool that can copy the partition - should I try this? (I started it up and it recognized the drive. At the time, I did not have another drive big enoug to copy the partition to) or is there another data recovery tool? |

Hi All,
My WD2500JB is dead. After detaching the PCB from the drive and researching on the web, I learned that the motor control chip was burned (it seems that this has happened to a lot of WD2500 ).
So if someone has the matching PCB please contact me. I would really appreciate it.
My PCB number : 2061-001179-000-DM
My email: vutbao@yahoo.com
Thank you very much.
God bless

If you have an issue with your drive, even similiar.
Create a new post and give your story/symptoms.
Just because you have the same symptoms does not always mean you have the same problem. It is better to start from square one. Never assume your having the same issue. |
