P.S. The laptop this unit was in was set in a puddle of liquid while turned on. The computer BSOD and the drive was removed and dried but after turning back on the drive makes a ticking (not clicking) noise for about 5 seconds and then stops. Anyone ever have success with a board swap under similar circumstances? I figure the motor may have been damaged and the chance of success is very low but considering the price of a data recovery service it seems worth the $30 price of a board swap in the off chance it works.

It does not sound like a PCB problem.
Most likely its a head stiction.
Heads got stuck on a platter.
Unfortunately its a time for a pro Sad
